Rhona Mitra (born August 9, 1976) is an
English actress. She is sometimes credited as Rona
Mitra.
Early life: Mitra was born in Paddington, London,
England to Nora and Anthony Mitra, a cosmetic surgeon.
Her father is part Indian and part English, while her
mother is Irish. In 1984, Mitra's parents divorced and,
as part of an overall lifestyle change, eight-year-old
Mitra was sent off to boarding school. Several years
passed at two different all-girls schools, including
Roedean, but Mitra was eventually expelled from both of
them.
She has been quoted as saying: "I was kicked out
[of Roedean] for taking a sixth-former's car and driving
it down to the local boys' school. I was only 14. I left
stuffing under my bed sheets but one of my friends told
on me and the headmistress tracked me down. They put me
in this room with bars on the windows to punish me. I
was stuck in there for a whole week with just a rosary
for comfort, having my dinner brought in on trays. The
only time I got out was to say confession to the school
priest. After that, they booted me out. Then at the next
school the other girls used to blame me whenever they
got caught for something, so all the parents wrote in
and said they didn't want me at the school. I crammed my
exams in London and did fine".
Career: Mitra appeared in the final season of The
Practice playing Tara, and continued that role into its
spin-off Boston Legal, but left not long into the second
season.
She also appeared as a live action model
for Lara Croft from Eidos Interactive's Tomb Raider
video game series. Mitra was ranked #46 on the Maxim Hot
100 Women of 2001. In 2005, she had a recurring role of
Kit McGraw during Season 3 of Nip/Tuck.
In 1984, Rhona's parents got divorced
and, as part of an overall lifestyle change,
eight-year-old Rhona was sent off to boarding school.
She has some acting experience, both in theatre and
television, her last role before incarnating Lara, was
in Jilly Cooper's The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous,
where she plays Flora, a rather wild school girl.
Rhona Mitra was the first official
real-life Lara Croft. Acting has been part of Rhona's
career for several years now. She's played many parts in
theater productions, as well as several television
appearances, including guest staring roles in The Bill,
The Ghostbusters Of East Finchley, and The Man Who Made
Husbands Jealous. In order to help portray the
amply-endowed character of Lara Coft, Rhona had her
breasts enlarged from a size 34A to a more Lara-sized
34DD. Her silicon upgrade was performed by none-other
than her own father Dr Anthony Mitra. Her vital
statistics are 34d-24-35.
She has also taken special media courses
in order to emulate Lara's confidence when doing
interviews with the press. Her public appearances at E3
and ECTS quickly gained her much popularity with fans of
Tomb Raider and Lara Croft. During her tenure as Lara,
Rhona did several photo shoots, public appearances,
interviews, and even cut a pop single entitled Getting
Naked. She was also widely considered the obvious choice
for the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider
movie.
Then unfortunately, Rhona was fired by
Eidos Interactive, shocking many Tomb Raider fans, and
was replaced by the lovely Nell McAndrew. The reason for
her termination was left to speculation, as neither
Eidos nor Rhona Mitra have given any reasons publicly as
far as we know. She has since appeared in Playboy
Magazine.
After becoming the official living embodiment of the
video game character Lara Croft, she underwent breast
implant surgery in an effort to properly
"become" the fictional character. Despite the
widely circulated rumor that her own father performed
Rhona's breast augmentation, Rhona has laughed off the
story which was originally published in the popular
British tabloid newspaper, The Sun. In 2000, Mitra had a
small, non-speaking part as a victim of the title role
villain in the film "Hollow Man." |
