Resident Evil: Extinction is an 2007 post-apocalyptic science fiction film, and sequel to the 2004 film Resident Evil: Apocalypse. RE: E is the third installment in a series of film adaptations based on the popular Capcom survival horror game series Resident Evil. The film was directed by Russell Mulcahy and produced by Paul Anderson. The film will adapt several plot elements from Resident Evil: Code Veronica and will also feature several new characters and creatures from the game series. The film is set to be released in the United States on September 21, 2007, and in Europe on September 28, 2007.
Resident Evil: Extinction is set between 3 - 5 years after the events of Apocalypse. The Umbrella Corporation has failed to control a series of world-wide T-Virus outbreaks, which has infected and killed nearly every human living on the planet. Alice (Milla Jovovich), now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Oliveira (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire Redfield (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead...and to seek justice. Alice finds a notebook telling of a place up north without infection, and attempts to steal a helicopter with the survivors. However, the Umbrella Corporation is after her blood, as they are trying to develop a serum, but without her, the corporation resorts to unsuccessful attempts to create a serum from clones of her. Since being captured by the Umbrella Corporation, she has been subjected to biogenetic experimentation and becomes genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity. These skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive.
Oddly enough the novelization of the film was released in late July, almost two months before the film's theatrical release.
Novelization While reports state that Angela Ashford and Jill Valentine will not be in the film itself, they are included in the novelization. Other characters include Alice and Claire Redfield leading a caravan of survivors across the United States, trying to stay alive and look for supplies; with her are Carlos and LJ, along with new characters Nurse Betty, K-Mart, and Mikey. The bad guys are Dr. Sam Isaacs and Albert Wesker (Wesker does make an appearance, but Isaacs will be the main villain), along with lots of zombies. The infected crows will be introduced in this film as well as Tyrant, along with a new AI, 'villain', White Queen (similar to Red Queen in the first film). The mansion that Alice is seen entering is a replica of the mansion from the first film. In the novelization, Alice is good...Umbrella, however, can take control of her, which leds to the death of Angie when Alice shoots her in the head.
Cast:
Milla Jovovich as Alice: The primary protagonist who is being tracked down by the Umbrella Corporation in order to develop a serum from her blood. Since being exposed to the T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City, Alice has been captured, and experimented on. Since her escape/release from the second film, Alice has rugged up as a hero and now has a true purpose to stay alive "in order to exact her revenge".
Ali Larter as Claire Redfield: A red haired woman who is seeking to find her brother Chris Redfield.
Iain Glen as Dr. Sam Isaacs The scientist that has been employed by the Umbrella Corporation. Dr. Isaacs has been involved in the creation of the Nemesis program as well as the creation of Program Alice in Apocalypse.
Oded Fehr as Carlos Oliveira: Ex-U.B.C.S. soldier and survivor of the Nemesis program as well as the "cleansing" of Raccoon City.
Jason O'Mara as Albert Wesker: Is the Chairman of Umbrella. His office is in Tokyo Japan and through holographic technology has regular meeting with all committee members including Dr. Isaacs who gave the order to find and capture Alice. Paul Anderson stated a character from the earlier games will appear. During the Game Head special, it was confirmed that Albert Wesker would make an appearance. The character has been speculated to appear by fans since 2005, when Sony purchased the rights from Capcom to use the character.
Spencer Locke as K-Mart Girl: A girl found by Alice's companions hiding out in a Kmart store prior to the outbreak and desertion of Las Vegas.
Ashanti as Nurse Betty: Tough young woman who knows how to handle herself. As her name suggest she is a nurse and aids members of the group to full recovery.
Mike Epps as L.J.: Former citizen of Raccoon City, survived the Nemesis program and Raccoon City's destruction. Now he travels with fellow survivors seeking refuge.
