The film was announced on May 15, 2006, when MGA Entertainment, Avi Arad Productions, and Crystal Sky Pictures teamed up to bring the Bratz dolls to the big screen. Under the deal, Crystal Sky Pictures will finance the film, Avi Arad and MGA will executive produce. John Doolittle and Susie Singer Carter penned the screenplay. Paula Abdul was dropped from the production before the completion of the film due to unknown reasons. She was originally enlisted to provide wardrobe designs, choreograph the film, and executive produce. This was revealed on Hey Paula, her own reality show on her personal life. She was also to hold a role in the film, and it is not clear whether her role remains intact or not.
Sasha, Jade, Cloe and Yasmin are four trendy friends from different racial backgrounds. Upon attending Carry Nation High School, the student body president and spoiled daughter of the principal, Meredith, drives the girls into different competing cliques. Eventually, their "bratty" ways land them in detention where they reunite. This film is rated PG by the MPAA for thematic elements.
