Milena Markovna Kunis, born August 14,
1983, better known as Mila Kunis, is an
Ukrainian-American actress. She is best known for
playing Jackie Burkhart on That '70s Show, and also
performs the voice of the character Meg Griffin on the
popular animated series Family Guy.
Early life: Kunis was born in Kiev, Ukrainian
SSR, Soviet Union (now Ukraine), to a Jewish family,
with whom she moved to Los Angeles, California, when she
was 7. Kunis learned English by watching The Price Is
Right; host Bob Barker spoke slowly enough for her to
understand.
In Los Angeles, where she attended
Hubert Howe Bancroft Middle School, Kunis took
after-school acting classes and was cast in minor roles
in children's programs and television commercials,
appearing in a 1994 episode of Days of Our Lives as a
young Hope Williams.
Career: Kunis became well known after being cast
in the television series That '70s Show in 1998. During
the auditions, all persons auditioning for the roles in
the show were required to be at least 18 years of age,
so Kunis told the casting staff at the audition that she
was going to be 18 on her birthday (not specifying which
one): after receiving the part, she was kept on the role
despite having misled the directors as she had been
considered the best fit for the character and was
thought to have been creative in her way of gaining the
audition despite her age; she was 14 at the time of the
audition and had turned 15 by the time the show began
filming.
Kunis has stated many times that she is nothing like
Jackie, her character on the show, insisting that she is
really more of the cute girl-next-door type with a dash
of tomboy thrown in for good measure. Before the
program, Kunis had appeared in the 1997 film Honey, We
Shrunk Ourselves as a minor character (the daughter's
friend). Despite this docile description, she has shown
a different attitude by her sultry appearance on the
cover of the men's magazine Stuff in December of 2005.
Kunis' inimitable, instantly recognizable voice has
earned her several other notable roles, including
starring in the Aerosmith music video "Jaded",
The Strokes music video "The End Has No End",
as well as several movies, such as Piranha (1995), Santa
with Muscles (1996), Krippendorf's Tribe (1998), Gia
(1998), Get Over It (2001), American Psycho II: All
American Girl (2002), and Tony n' Tina's Wedding (2004).
She is starring with Jon Heder in the upcoming film
Moving McAllister.
Kunis is the voice of Meg Griffin in the animated TV
show Family Guy, and of several characters on the Adult
Swim show Robot Chicken. She has acted as the voice of
Tanya Winters in the video game Saints Row. She is
filming a movie in Fiji called Boot Camp. She guest
starred on Grounded for Life as Brad's ex-girlfriend
from space camp.
Born in Kiev in the Ukraine, Mila Kunis moved to Los
Angeles with her parents and older brother when she was
7 years old. After learning to speak English, she
enrolled in acting classes and was soon discovered by
her manager while performing at a showcase. It wasn't
long before Kunis began landing numerous commercials,
and she has since gone on to build a strong resume in
both feature films and television.
She recently wrapped production on the feature film
"Tom 51." Her additional feature film credits
include roles in "American Psycho II,"
"Get Over It," "Krippendorf's
Tribe," "Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves,"
"Knockout Kid," "Santa With
Muscles," "Piranha" and "Make a
Wish, Molly."
Kunis provides the voice of "Meg" on the
Emmy-nominated animated series FAMILY GUY. She also
starred as young "Gia Carangi" in the
critically acclaimed cable movie "Gia." Her
additional television credits include recurring roles on
"7th Heaven" and "Nick Freno," as
well as guest-starring appearances on "Grounded for
Life", "Baywatch," "Days of Our
Lives," "The John Larroquette Show,"
"Unhappily Ever After," "Walker, Texas
Ranger," "Moloney," "Pensacola:
Wings of Gold" and "Hudson Street."
Kunis has received two Young Star Awards for Best Young
Actress Performance in a Comedy Series for her role as
Jackie on THAT '70s SHOW. Additionally, she also earned
a Young Hollywood Award from Movieline Magazine for the
One to Watch.
Personal life: Kunis graduated from Fairfax High
School, in West Hollywood, California in 2001. She was
ranked #54 in Stuff's "102 Sexiest Women In The
World" (2002); Maxim named her #47 on its 2006 Hot
100 list. She has heterochromia, which means that her
two eyes don't match in color: one is blue, and the
other is slightly green. Laura Prepon has referred to
her as "a husky." She began dating actor
Macaulay Culkin in 2002..
According to the DVD commentary of the Family Guy movie
(during the third part in which Kunis was a
commentator), Kunis claims that one of the reasons her
boyfriend likes her is because of her role on Family
Guy; Culkin is a big fan of the show. She goes on to say
that it was because of Culkin that she actually sat down
and watched the show (having never done so before).
According to the DVD commentary of Family Guy Volume 4,
Mila stated that both of her grandfathers were Holocaust
survivors, one of whom was forced to work digging mass
graves. |
