Mackenzie Ryann
Rosman (born December 28, 1989) is an American child
actress. She is best known for her role as Ruthie Camden
on The CW's 7th Heaven.
Rosman was born in Charleston, South Carolina and has
some Cherokee Indian ancestry. In 1996, she got the part
of Ruthie Camden on 7th Heaven. In addition to her role
on 7th Heaven, Rosman appeared in the independent film
Gideon, starring Christopher Lambert, Charlton Heston
and Shelley Winters. She has appeared in numerous
television commercials starting at age four. She also
played JonBenét Ramsey in Getting Away with Murder: The
JonBenét Ramsey Mystery.
Her parents are divorced, and she resides in Los Angeles
with her mother Donna, stepfather Randy, younger brother
Chandler (b. 1992), and older stepsister Katelyn Salmont
(b. 1986). Also included in the mix is a menagerie of
cats and dogs, chickens, horses and goats.
Mackenzie Rosman made her television debut as a series
regular on 7th Heaven. Born in South Carolina, the
12-year-old moved to Los Angeles with her family when
she was 4. Encouraged by a friend, her mother signed her
up with a talent agency and she landed her very first
commercial audition. Mackenzie also appeared in a number
of other national television commercials for products
such as Hormel Hot Dogs and Nike.
When she auditioned for the role of the youngest child,
Ruthie, in 7th Heaven at the age of 5, Mackenzie
impressed producer Aaron Spelling and others by walking
up to each individual in the room, shaking hands and
introducing herself. In addition to her role on the
drama series, Mackenzie appeared in the independent film
Gideon's Webb, starring Christopher Lambert, Charlton
Heston and Shelley Winters.
Rosman manages to balance school with acting by doing
her homework on set in between scenes. She loves all
animals, especially horses, and spends as much spare
time as she can at the stables. In fact, she often
donates her spare time to various charity events
involving animals. Mackenzie enjoys reading, dancing,
biking
Her greatest passion, outside of acting, is animals,
especially horses, of which she owns eight. She is a
competitive equestrian show jumper, and recently
competed in Belgium in her first international show.
She is an active supporter for fundraising for the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and wishes to help educate
the public about the need for organ donation.
Mackenzie's stepsister, Katelyn Salmont, lives with CF
and, in 2005, Katelyn underwent a successful double
lung-transplant. Both girls will be featured in Teen
People's "20 Teens Who Will Change the World".
"7th Heaven" (1996) had produced a special
episode about Cystic Fibrosis entitled "Back in the
Saddle" which featured Katelyn as herself, and
Mackenzie and Katelyn rode horses together, as they do
at home. In 2005, "7th Heaven" (1996) again
brought Katelyn on the show, post-transplant, which gave
her a chance to explain about the new life she had been
given.
Most recently she has been linked to Australian born
human rights activist and musician Nicholas Hodge.
