Lara Bingle (born 1987, Cronulla, New
South Wales) is an Australian model who is best known
for appearing on Fingal Spit in the controversial 2006
Tourism Australia advertising campaign So where the
bloody hell are you?, where she delivers this final line
in the television commercial.
Television career: Because of Bingle's notoriety,
later that year she competed on the Nine Network's
celebrity ice dancing show Torvill and Dean's Dancing on
Ice, where she was eliminated 6th, and in the channel's
parody of the above ad for their own ad for the
2006-2007 Ashes series. She is currently participating
in the tour of the UK version of the show.
Professional controversies: In May 2006, Bingle
took legal action against EMAP Australia, who allegedly
published photographs of the model without her
permission in the March 27, 2006 issue of Australian
lad's mag Zoo Weekly. Bingle claims that the magazine
defamed her by implying she consented to pose for the
magazine, which used photographs that were shot when she
was an unknown model.
In late March 2007, knowledge of nude photographs by
celebrity photographer Gavin O'Neill on a German GQ
Magazine website surfaced, resulting in a surge of
Australian hits to the inundated site. Bingle's
representatives claim O'Neill misused the shot(s), taken
when she was 17. O'Neill suggests the photographs were
taken on the foundation of selling them to the European
market. With suggestion of more photos to be made public
soon, Zoo Weekly are using these photographs as evidence
against the controversial model.
Personal life, Brendan Fevola sex scandal: On
September 28, 2006 Bingle appeared on the AFL The Footy
Show's Grand Final episode during the player revue. On
12 December 2006 Melbourne's Channel Seven news reported
that Bingle was the 'other woman' involved in the
breakdown of Carlton AFL player Brendan Fevola's
marriage, after months of internet speculation that they
began their relationship on the night of the Grand Final
episode.
At the time Brendan's first child with
his wife was only 5 months old. Bingle herself has
denied that this is the case, claiming that the pair
only met during their appearance on the Footy Show and
nowhere else. The credibility of Bingle's public denial
however was dented with the release of a voicemail
message sent to Fevola allegedly by Bingle on 11
December 2006 a day before the story broke in the media.
More revelations against Bingle emerged in subsequent
days, giving further details of her relationship with
Fevola which included a final phone confrontation
between Bingle and Fevola's wife. Bingle has since
'fled' her Sydney home and is currently 'in hiding, far
away from Sydney' - speculated to be the northern NSW
town of Tamworth, the home of her parents.
Michael Clarke: On 8 January 2007 reports had
said that Bingle had a private party with Australian
cricketer Michael Clarke over the previous weekend, just
after the Australian team's private victory party.
Further revelations on 10 January 2007, in Sydney
tabloid The Daily Telegraph, indicated Bingle may have
been involved with Clarke as early as September 2006,
leading to speculation she was the catalyst in the
relationship breakdown between Clarke and childhood
sweetheart, Erina-Lea Connelly, who was kicked out of
Clarke's Sutherland Shire house at the end of 2006.
Bingle partnered Clarke to the Allan Border Medal night
on 5 February 2007.
Bingle backlash: Following the revelations of
Bingle's relationships with Fevola and Clarke, it was
revealed on 12 January 2007 that Bingle will be replaced
as the 'Face of Australian Tourism' by Bindi Irwin with
Bingle relegated to a minor role.
