Eva LaRue (born
Eva Maria LaRuy on December 27, 1966 in Long Beach,
California) is an American actress. She was a teenage
beauty queen. She was crowned Miss California Empire
1984 in Irvine, CA. She played Dr. Maria Santos Grey on
All My Children from 1993 to 1997 and again from 2002 to
2005.
Once married to John O'Hurley, she began romancing John
Callahan, an AMC co-star who played her on-screen
husband "Edmund Grey" on All My Children.
Together, they co-hosted both the Miss America pageant
and Lifetime's Weddings of a Lifetime before marrying on
November 30, 1996 on the Hawaiian island of Lanai. For
many years, she went by the name Eva LaRue Callahan.
They have since divorced. LaRue and Callahan have one
daughter, Kaya McKenna.
LaRue received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination in the
category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a
Drama Series" for AMC. She also received a
nomination in 2004 in the category of " Outstanding
Original Song" for composing the song "Dance
Again with You" which was used as her character's
theme song during a storyline in which Edmund became
paralyzed from the waist down.
LaRue also performed in television movies over the
years, appearing as Annette Funicello in a biographical
movie of the former Mouseketeer and also in the
adaptation of Danielle Steel's Remembrance as Princess
Serena.
While on All My Children, LaRue developed a notable
friendship with Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the
role of Kendall on the soap.
In the fall of 2005, LaRue began the role of Natalia Boa
Vista on CSI: Miami. It was revealed in the end of
season 4 that Eva's character Natalia Boa Vista was the
mole in the lab reporting back to the FBI. As of Season
5, La Rue is a full time cast member and her character
is now a trainee CSI under the reluctant tutelage of
Ryan Wolfe.
In August 2006, it was revealed that LaRue's sister Nika
was one of the women photographed by convicted serial
killer William Richard Bradford for his collection. She
was no. 3 (out of 54 women) on the poster, created by
the LAPD. Bradford would photograph women he met in bars
under the guise that he would assist their modeling
careers. LaRue is of Puerto Rican, French, Dutch and
Scottish ancestry, and is a member of the Bahá'í
Faith. LaRue is Jane Fonda's third cousin.
Eva La Rue has just joined the cast of CSI:MIAMI for the
new 2005-2006 season in the role of Natalia Boa Vista, a
Lab Specialist with a knack for grant writing. TV Guide
says, "Natalia Boa Vista may be the sexiest federal
grant writer television has ever had."
In addition to her role on CSI:MIAMI, La Rue is a
Co-Host for E! Style Network's MODERN GIRLS GUIDE TO
LIFE and she recently had a recurring role as George's
sister on ABC's THE GEORGE LOPEZ SHOW. For the past two
years, this busy gal worked as a Correspondent and part
time weekend Anchor for TV's EXTRA!.
This past year, La Rue was awarded an esteemed Gracie
Allen Award by the Foundation of American Women in Radio
and Television. She was also nominated for a 2004
Daytime Emmy (her 2nd nomination) for Best Original Song
for her, "Dance Again With You". Her previous
portrayal of Dr. Maria Santos on the ABC daytime drama
ALL MY CHILDREN, earned her a first Emmy and NAACP
Nomination and won her an ALMA for Outstanding Actress
in a daytime drama.
La Rue has won the hearts of both prime-time and daytime
audiences with her natural charisma and animated
personality. TV Guide referred to La Rue as "...a
movie queen ripe for the picking… Beneath her
exotic,erotic exterior is a deeply touching
star-spangled wholesomeness."
La Rue's other television credits include a previous
recurring guest starring role on NBC'S THIRD WATCH. La
Rue also recurred on Showtime's hit series SOUL FOOD and
she dazzled us in her leading role as Carmen in the UPN
sitcom, HEAD OVER HEALS. La Rue also starred in Danielle
Steel's REMEMBRANCE an NBC movie of the week. She then
went on to play Annette Funicello in the highly rated
ABC movie of the week, A DREAM IS A WISH YOUR HEART
MAKES: THE ANNETTE FUNICELLO STORY. She also guest
starred on the situation comedy, HOPE & FAITH. On
the New York stage, La Rue starred in a production of
WOMEN OF 9.
She gained a great deal of recognition as the host of
the NEW CANDID CAMERA with Dom DeLuise which lead her to
host THE MISS AMERICA PAGEANT and the Lifetime special,
WEDDINGS OF A LIFETIME.
La Rue has been featured in and has graced the covers of
countless magazines. Some of these include, Complete
Woman, Catalina, First For Women, Fit, Woman's World,
Estylo, Cosmopolitan en Espanol, Latina, People and
Rosie's.
La Rue currently enjoys spending time with her daughter,
Kaya. She enjoys gardening and decorating and basically
anything that Kaya wants to try. Of all the success La
Rue has had in Hollywood, Kaya is the production in
which Eva La Rue is most proud!
When Eva is not filming or enjoying quality time with
her daughter, she’s supporting the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention’s (CDC) “Learn the Signs. Act
Early.” campaign. The campaign aims to help parents of
young children learn more about early childhood
development and warning signs of potential developmental
problems.
