Dani Behr (born 9
July 1971 in London) is a British television presenter
and singer.
Early life: Behr is of South African Jewish
descent. She is a graduate of the Sylvia Young Theatre
School, and was discovered by Pet Shop Boys manager Tom
Watkins, who put her in his female Bros concept, Faith
Hope and Charity, signed to the WEA record company.
However the band was not successful and Behr moved into
television production.
Career: At the age of sixteen, she was signed to
present the late night Channel 4 music show The Word,
which she was involved with for five years. She went on
to present over 30 TV shows, including The Big
Breakfast,"Hotel Babylon", Ice Warriors, and
in 2002 The Saturday Show for the BBC.
After numerous presenting jobs for shows in the United
States, Behr decided to move permanently to Hollywood to
begin presenting "Extra" for NBC. She went on
to host several more shows for Fox, NBC/Bravo, VH1, with
her biggest hit so far being the 2003 reality show Boy
Meets Boy". In between TV, Behr has also presented
radio shows for KissFM, and has had some minor film
acting roles and appeared alongside Kate Winslet, Oprah
Winfrey, Glenn Close & co in the successful play
"The Vagina Monologues" both in London at 'The
Old Vic' and on Broadway at 'Madison Square Gardens'.
Big began her career in London, England where she was
born and raised. She started dancing at the young age of
three, always knowing she wanted to perform. Years
later, at the age of 14, she signed a music contract
with WEA, while attending one of the most prestigious
performing arts schools in the UK. During her two-year
music career in the all-girl pop band ‘Faith, Hope and
Charity’, Dani realized it would be more interesting
and exciting introducing the band, instead of being the
performer. At 16, Dani's realization became reality,
when she was chosen from thousands of hopefuls to host
what became one of the highest rated late night shows on
British TV, ‘The Word’. The show gained cult status,
as did Dani and made her into an overnight star.
After 5 years on ‘The Word’, her captivating
personality, great interviewing skills and her
effortless ability for live TV enabled Dani to host over
30 shows all over the UK and US networks. Shows ranging
from morning to daytime, primetime to late night and
even producing ‘Dani Dares’, the reality series for
Channel 4.
She has also diversified into radio, hosting a daily 4
hour live drive time show on Kiss FM, gone back to her
acting roots. Dani took to the stage in London’s
West-end production of ‘Moby Dick’ and appeared at
the Old Vic and Madison Square Gardens in ‘The Vagina
Monologues’.
Her acting career has featured many roles in TV sitcoms
and British movies including ‘Rancid Aluminum’ (with
Joseph Fiennes and Rhys Ifans) and ‘Goodbye Charlie
bright’ (with Paul Nicholls).
Alongside all of the above, she has one of the most
recognizable voices in the UK, having a successful 14
year career in voice-overs. Recording for TV and radio
commercials, series narration, animation, trailers,
video games and so much more.
Dani regularly hosts award ceremonies, charity events,
auctions, corporate videos and other events. In 2002,
Maxim magazine readers voted Dani "Best Host of the
Year" award.
Dani moved to Los Angeles in January, 2003 and has since
hosted shows like EXTRA! for NBC, the ground-breaking
gay dating show BOY MEETS BOY for Bravo, and THE
LITTLEST GROOM for FOX. She has recently finished
shooting a pilot for VH1 and Gay Rosenthal Productions,
I WILL SURVIVE - A Dance Marathon, and is currently
developing her own series.
Simultaneously, she still works for the UK networks
hosting and recording voiceovers while based here in the
states, and has recently completed a special for CH4 and
E4, SPIDERMAN 2 - Behind the Scenes. Based on this
special's big success, Dani has just finished shooting a
pilot for a new series called The World Movie Show to be
distributed in the UK, USA and across the globe.
Behr was Maxim's female presenter of the year in 2002.
She voices the safety message on Virgin Atlantic and was
named in "Turn A Blind Eye" by Half Man Half
Biscuit. "They came for Dani Behr. I said 'she's
over there, behind the wardrobe.'", One of her more
notable was when she landed top job as flagship host on
CBBC's The Saturday Show.
Personal life: Behr has dated several
high-profile names whilst living in the UK, including
footballer Les Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and J from boy band
'5ive'. During this time her relationships were well
publicised by the tabloids. Behr married American
restauranter and surfer Carl Harwin in Malibu,
California, on 5 May 2005 - with pictures of the wedding
featured in Hello! magazine. They have a daughter named
Coco born in December 2005. They have recently moved to
Sydney, Australia. On April 19, 2007, Dani welcomed new
baby boy Zane Max Harwin to the family.
